Big East Schedule Ranks

Posted by Zach on July 2, 2008

The Big East conference slate came out today, and I decided to develop my own little formula to see who has an easier or tougher schedule. Take this with a grain of salt, obviously, but it was fun for me.

Upper Tier: Notre Dame, Louisville, Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Marquette (3)
Second Tier: West Virginia, Villanova, Syracuse, Georgetown (2)
Third Tier: Seton Hall, Providence, Rutgers, St. John’s, Cincinnati, South Florida, DePaul (1)

Road: 1.5+rank
Home: 1+rank

Cincinnati: 55.5
Connecticut: 56.5
DePaul: 58
Georgetown: 56.5
Louisville:  55.5
Marquette: 54.5
Notre Dame: 56.5
Pittsburgh: 55.5
Providence: 55.5
Rutgers: 55.5
St. John’s: 56.5
Seton Hall: 56.5
South Florida: 57.5
Syracuse: 55.5
Villanova: 56.5
West Virginia: 57.5

– Looks like Marquette has the easiest schedule, mostly due to their easy home conference slate featuring only one Upper Tier team at the Bradley Center: Connecticut. Their road slate, at 30.5, was the most difficult, but the 24 home total looks easy.

– DePaul has the most difficult conference schedule. It doesn’t help when you’re in the lowest tier because it eliminates a 2 or 2.5 from your schedule, but DePaul looks like it’ll have another tough year.

– My formula is quite elementary, but look how well the Big East keeps the schedules even. Every team’s schedule was between 54.5 and 58. Dates have not been announced.
